RSPA to Allow Electronic Filing
of Revised Hazmat Incident Reports
(For Incidents Occurring On/After Jan. 1, 2005)
The Department of Transportation's (DOT's) Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) has issued a notice announcing that individuals filing hazardous material (hazmat) incident reports for incidents occurring on or after January 1, 2005 will have the option of electronic filing.
RSPA is making this announcement in conjunction with the January 1, 2005 implementation of the revised Hazmat Incident Report, new DOT Form 5800.1(01-2004).
(In December 2003, RSPA issued a final rule which revised the incident reporting requirements in the Hazmat Regulations (HMR, 49 CFR Part 171) and the hazmat incident report form. In May 2004, RSPA issued a second final rule which made certain amendments to the December 2003 final rule and delayed the implementation of the new reporting requirements and form until January 1, 2005.
