Domestic Industry Request for
Reapplication of Safeguard Quota on
The Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements (CITA) has issued a notice announcing that on November 19, 2004, it received a request from certain groups† asking that CITA reapply the safeguard quota on cotton and/or man-made fiber (MMF) knit fabric (cat 222) from China on the grounds that an anticipated increase in imports of such knit fabric after December 23, 2004 threatens to disrupt the U.S. market.
CITA states that it has determined that this request (petition) has provided the information necessary for CITA to consider it.
China Cat 222 Is Currently Subject to Safeguard Quota that Has Closed
On December 24, 2003, CITA established a safeguard quota on imports from China of such knit fabric (cat 222), which will expire on December 23, 2004
China cat 222 closed on November 15, 2004. Exports of such knit fabric that are in excess of the applicable December 24, 2003 – December 24, 2004 safeguard quota limit will be allowed staged entry beginning on January 24, 2005.
